Obituary of Owen Terrence McCarthy

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Owen "OT" Terrence McCarthy, in his 92nd year, on Tuesday, March 24, 2015. He was predeceased by his loving first wife of 28 years, Virginia Helen Elizabeth (nee Porter) McCarthy in 1976 and his devoted second wife of 29 years Mary Agnes (nee Melnick) McCarthy in 2009. He was also predeceased by his sister Eileen (Joe Murphy), his brothers Daniel (Mary) and Peter (Doris), his daughter Kathleen (Rob Goss) and his step-son Bill McNabb. He is forever remembered by his brother Michael, his sons Peter (Carole), Brian (Monica) and Dan (Laura), his daughters Maureen and Naomi (Rocco DiRago), his step-daughters Cathy (Marsden Davies), Cheryle (Duncan Tilly). Owen "Grampy" will be dearly missed by his grandchildren Meaghan (Jay St. Louis), Dylan (Andrea), Hadi (Tina), Drew (Melissa), Martin, Michelle (Matt Reitzel), Matthew, Mitchell, Michael, Virginia, Nicole, Lindsay, Christina, Nick (Carleigh), Alexander, Sean, Ceri, and Gareth, and his great grandchildren Hayden, Amelia, Joseph, Sasha, Jasmine, Keith, Lilah, and Lexi. Owen will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to Owen Emmett and Mary McCarthy, Owen attended Nova Scotia Tech where he achieved his degree in mechanical engineering. He and his new bride, Virginia, moved to Toronto where he joined Ontario Hydro as a junior engineer. Here they raised their six children. Owen spent his entire business career as an executive in the Transmission and Distribution Construction Department of Ontario Hydro. Taking early retirement, Owen and his second wife, Mary moved to Nestleton, Ontario to become "gentlemen" sheep ranchers. After the death of Mary, Owen moved to West Shore Village where he spent his remaining years enjoying his grandchildren. Owen was a tremendous support to his community, a longstanding member of the Knights of Columbus, and an inspiration to all of us.
